Reflection

  1. What are you better at now than you were at the end of the previous academic year? Name all of the (course and general) ways that these improvements were made possible.

In this semester I am better at studying than I was in the previous academic year. I am also better at focusing and participating as well as asking questions when I am confused. I was able to make these improvements possible by just putting in more effort overall.

  1. What are you most proud of from the past academic year? Why does this make you proud?

I am the most proud that I did not drop a class because I wanted to drop a class that I was not interested in and invested in but I stood in the class. I did not really have an option but I am proud that I stuck through it.

  1. What went well this past academic year? What tools, supports or resources aided your success?

Very little went well this academic year. I think it was one of the most draining actually. But my grades were decent. I did not have many tools or resources at my aid, besides peers I could contact for assistance.

  1. What did not go well this past academic year?
What was missing that made this experience challenging or undesirable?

My attendance, my happiness, and my ability to complete work suffered this academic year. I think my motivation and mental health as a whole was lacking and that’s what made this experience more challenging.

  1. What insight did you gain about your own needs for mitigating challenges? Where or how can you fulfill these needs in the future?

I realized that I have to put my grade above all else because that is the ultimate goal for me. In order to obtain this goal I need to focus on my classes more and do things to clear negativity from my mind so I can have more motivation for my assignments.

  1. What did you learn from overcoming challenges?
How will you remember what you learned and apply it when a similar issue arises?

From overcoming challenges I learned that it is important to push forward and not give up or take the easy way out. I will apply this knowledge in case of a similar issue arising because I’ll remember that it feels more fulfilling to go through with something rather than quit.

  1. Who and what helped you to grow this year?

My classmates and peers in this school helped me grow this year. I had peers around me that helped me realize what it was that I wanted to do with my academic career and how to get there.

  1. Who and what made getting to this point in the semester possible for you?

My classmates and peers in this school. They were in very similar situations with me academically and personally and having people to connect to really helped me in the fact that I was not alone in my struggles and had people to fall back on.

  1. What experiences are you grateful for? How can you acknowledge or express that gratitude?
  2. When did you feel happiest or most at ease this year? How can you experience those moments more frequently?

I felt the happiest when I was in breaks between classes. This was due to the fact I had less stress from classes and house environments. I’m not sure how to experience those moments more frequently as they were out of my control.

  1. What moments are you proud of? What can you do to celebrate yourself?

I was the most proud when I stepped outside of my comfort zone and when I received high marks on my assignments. In order to celebrate myself I can take a well needed break from all things involving college, and unwind.

  1. What new ideas, information, resources or research made a positive difference for you this year? What was helpful about these things?

Some resources and information that made a positive difference for me this year would be google. For almost every question I had google had an answer. Quizlet also helped me with studying.

  1. How has your understanding of the meanings behind (and usefulness of) genre, medium, author’s intent and audience changed?

My understanding of the meanings behind genre, medium, and author’s intent in regards to their importance have not actually changed. I feel they have the same level of importance that I initially thought they had before discussing them in class.

  1. How has your understanding of how to navitage different writing situations/rhetorical situations (different genres to write in or audiences to write for etc.) changed?

My understanding on how to navigate different writing situations as well as rhetorical situations regarding different genres to write in or audiences to write for has changed because now I actually try to apply what audience I’m writing for in my work and it helps me adjust my writing for the proper audience.

  1. How has your writing process changed or evolved after this semester and how has the class affected this process?
My writing process has changed this semester because now I try to write with more purpose and more of an understanding. This semester has helped with this because that was the goal of most of the writing assignments.
  2. You produced a work that had you create for a new audience: explain (using genre, medium and audience understanding) how was that affective for the audience you chose.
Me producing an assignment that I had to create for a new audience, using genre and audience understanding was effective for the audience I chose because learning the audience and applying it to the genre was a different and beneficial skill.
  3. Knowing what you know now (from having taken this class) how would you approach a situation in the future in which you were asked to write in a new genre and for a new audience?

Knowing what I know now, and having taken this class, approaching a situation in the future in which I was asked to write in a new genre and for a new audience I would do research and look at sample papers for inspiration and an idea on how to approach.

  1. How has your understanding of the research process how it is and how it should be conducted-been affected by this course? And how might this help in the future?

My understanding of the research process and how it should be conducted has been affected by this course because now I know what sources are the most reliable and I have ways of obtaining the most resourceful information.

  1. How has your ability to compose your own positions, arguments or stances been affected by the course?

My ability to compose my positions and arguments have been affected by this course because due to this class, I can support my arguments and positions better now, rather than just making a non-supported argument.
